Why washing and dewatering matter
Lime mud washing recovers alkali from the mud stream, while dewatering improves mud handling and downstream conditions. The correct equipment depends on mud characteristics, washing demand and the final handling route.
- Confirm dry lime mud load and target cake condition.
- Review residual alkali requirements if available.
- Check whether the mud is sent to a kiln, disposal point or conveyor system.
Disc filter or precoat filter
A standard disc filter and a precoat lime mud disc filter solve related but different problems. Precoat filtration is typically discussed when mud characteristics make stable filtration more difficult.

- Confirm vacuum, wash water and filtrate arrangements.
